("Let me explain. ...No, there is too much. Let me sum up." - Inigo, The Princess Bride)
*snorts* Oh god. Thank you, Beyoncé, for removing all that was simple from a song I loved for its simplicity... knew I could count on you.
Best surprise:Eternal Sunshine for Best Original Screenplay (wheeeeee!!)
Biggest disappointments, even though the categories turned out exactly the way I knew they would: The fact that Jamie Foxx is an Oscar winner, but neither Johnny Depp nor Leo DiCaprio is. I enjoyed Hilary Swank's performance in Million Dollar Baby and thought she was good, but...in the long run? Same problem as with the Best Actor category -- Hilary Swank's got two, and Kate Winslet's got none. Weird. But who cares about a stupid statue anyway, right? ;)
Biggest Yay's, other than 'Eternal Sunshine' for Screenplay: Cate Blanchett for Best Supporting Actress; shout-outs for Canada (and Toronto in particular) from the recipient for the Best Animated Short, Ryan.
Biggest NOOOOOOOOOO!! moment:Million Dollar Baby wins Best Picture. No no no! No!! Okay, so I liked the movie okay, and on my nominees list it's one of the three movies I asterisked, but...of the three (Aviator, Neverland, MDB), why did it have to be that one??! WHYYYYYYY?!
The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning. Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic. Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.
The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility. Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art. Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.
As per usual, I've considered writing new posts several times since last week, but I'm overwhelmingly lazy (overwhelming in the sense that it overrides most of my will to do anything other than laze about for the rest of my life) and just went, "Oh well, to hell with that", and well...here we are, a week later. Not that I really had anything to say, anyway.
I was in BestBuy with Suzy Q on Friday and unwisely mentioned that I didn't have City of Angels on DVD yet...and so the silly girl bought it for me, damn it. I told her I'd have to get her back for that sometime. You know, by like, buying her a DVD player or something, or something else she wants but doesn't want me to buy for her (but can't think of anything right now; drat). Heh. Thanks, Suz, for my very early Christmas present/very late but extra birthday present. ;)
Personally, I love City of Angels, and even I wouldn't want to watch it based solely on the DVD's back cover blurb, if I didn't know any better. I mean, come on...one of the first sentences in the paragraph reads, "Two of the brightest stars in the Hollywood constellation spark the biggest romance under the heavens in City of Angeles {sic}, 'a lyrical, unabashedly romantic film [that] earns its wings' (David Ansen, Newsweek)." And later on -- "Will love be their mutual destiny? Will they take the risks that shape that destiny? The choice is theirs to make." I like cheese as much (and possibly more) than the next person, but...seriously? This is just a bit to cheesy even for me. :)
And on the topic of cheesiness, I also finally succeeded in watching Phantom of the Opera for the second time, and probably not a day too soon because this is likely its last week in theaters, by the looks of things. This movie is sometimes quite good and sometimes so cheesy it's hilarious. Seriously. I was laughing at inappropriate times, then laughing 'cause I was laughing, and then...oh, man. At any rate, I enjoyed myself.
Righty-o, gotta go do my online Astronomy quiz. Tonight's Academy Awards ceremony should be....something. I'm not quite sure what to make of this one just yet.
ETA: Question - Say something about Colorblind by Counting Crows! That's how I stumbled upon your blog... Answer - Ah, Colorblind. The song that inspired the original title of this blog before I realized that -- shocker of shockers -- none of my content actually pertained to the song (or its lyrics) at all, really, and so the title got changed. Still like the song, though. Is one of the songs I can listen to on repeat for hours, especially if I'm writing or journaling something, thinking those really deep thoughts, or reading a good book. One time I even thought I figured out what it meant (and wrote an entry in my paper journal accordingly), but off the top of my head (or the bottom of it, for that matter), I can't remember what my interpretation of it was. That's another thing that's great -- its lyrics are open to individual interpretations. Also love the piano ... and really, the song's pretty easy to play on the piano, too, since it's basically the same note sequence repeated over and over. I don't know. I just find the song soothing. Say what you want about Cruel Intentions, but who knows when or if I'd ever have heard the song if I'd never seen the movie? And as it turns out, I loved the movie, too. :)
Wow. Yesterday, three fairly famous celebrities passed away: Sandra Dee, née Alexandra Zuck, 1950s and '60s actress and teen idol; Hunter S. Thompson, journalist, author, former Rolling Stone columnist, and all-around wacky guy; and John Raitt, whom I admittedly don't know anything about other than that he was popular on the broadway scene and that he's Bonnie Raitt's father. I'd never heard about celebrity deaths coming in threes before, but apparently this is a morbid trend that has surfaced over the years. Sandra Dee was in movies like Gidget and Imitation of Life, whose career began to fail after her 5-year marriage to Bobby Darin ended in divorce in 1965, damaging her former squeaky-clean image. She was played by Kate Bosworth in 2004's Beyond the Sea, a movie which she reportedly liked. Hunter S. Thompson came up with a new kind of non-fiction writing that he called "gonzo journalism" and was responsible for writing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, amongst other books. He seemed like a very interesting individual, from what I've read of him and from quotes of his. Hunter Stockton Thompson was also known as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, and was played by Bill Murray in Where The Buffalo Roam and by Johnny Depp in the film version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Go to Wikiquote to read some of his quotes. To Sandra Dee, Hunter Thompson, and John Raitt: rest in peace. In other news, in Orange County in Southern California where they are currently having very bad storms, a 16-year-old girl was sitting at her computer on the second floor of a building (she lived with her family above a store they own) when a huge boulder crashed through her window, struck her, and killed her. This is the kind of thing that freaks me out, because, obviously, I use my computer a lot and because this is the kind of thing that could happen to any one of us -- one minute, you're sitting at your computer, maybe checking your e-mail, or messaging a friend, or something, and the next minute you're just...gone, and the Online World doesn't even have any idea what's just happened. Probably wondering where you've gone to or why you aren't writing back or... I don't know, it just freaks me out. I really hope the storms and everything let up really soon... :/
Thursday I can't even remember what I did all day Thursday, so it can't have been...oh, right. I woke up at like 12:40pm, so this was kind of a short day, unfortunately. Hate waking up so late when I'm not deliberately planning to. :P Anyway, this is the day afternoon I used to catch up on the episodes of various shows that I didn't have time to watch last week. All caught up now, finally, which means I'm ready to fall behind yet again next week once I've got some work to do again. Oh, yay. Two of my brother's coworkers came over to watch The Apprentice, and there was lots of sushi/rolls that were really quite good. Mmm.
Friday Seriously, I swear I wanted to have something interesting to post about (interesting...now there's an idea, eh?) but really...I didn't do...anything. I re-watched Brokedown Palace because I couldn't remember it very well and wanted to, um, make sure it still belonged on my MovieList. (What a geek.) Anyway, it turns out I still like it just as much as I did before, for some odd reason I could never explain. Also watched Being John Malkovich, which, let me just say, is one wacky movie. Not the same kind of wacky as, say, Moulin Rouge! or Donnie Darko, mind you, but an entirely different brand of crazy. Heh. Someone needs to commit Charlie Kaufman, like, STAT.
Today's Daily Quickie Horoscope: Lately, you feel that the stars are aligned against you, but they aren't. So relax.
*laughs* I LOVE this! I mean, I'm not sure if I've been feeling maligned by the stars lately, but I'm sure that if I was, "they aren't, so relax" wouldn't do the trick in terms of soothing advice and comfort. Heehee. Oh, Astrology.com, my old friend...you try so hard (sometimes). Just give it up. I'm not sure giving horoscopes is really your calling. :)

(Will add to this as the week progresses. Hopefully the remaining days will give me something not entirely dull to report...)
Saturday Went out for dinner with my family, my grandmother, and my aunts and uncles from my mom's side.
Sunday Was Happiest Girl's birthday. Called to extend birthday greetings and actually caught her at home. Yay. Hope her party went well.
Tried to watch The Phantom of the Opera with Chloe -- and failed miserably, due to various stupidities on both our parts. Short story: we were waiting for each other in different spots...Chloe's cellphone stopped working...I didn't go and check if she was waiting where she was waiting...Chloe has my phone number only on her non-working cellphone, so couldn't call and find out where I was...I couldn't call her to find out where she was...Chloe got up at 4am that morning, and after waiting for me not more than 10 or 15 minutes, apparently she headed into the theater by herself...nearly an hour before the movie actually started. So really, even if I'd gone and checked if she was there already, chances are I wouldn't have found her. Anyhow, she saw POTO on her own, and I went home, wondering what had happened to her since from my POV she'd just never shown up. Blllarrgh.
Monday Went to work. Was business as usual.
Tuesday Visited Susan in Hamilton. It's fun taking trains. You know, assuming everything goes the way it's supposed to. Had our usual problems actually meeting up, but was much less disastrous than both Sunday's debacle with Chloe and my visit to Hamilton in 2nd year, where Suz and I failed to meet up with each other for an hour. Heh. You know, I think meeting up with people properly may be a flaw of mine of some kind... Anyway. Had pita for lunch and pizza for dinner. Foods starting with letter "P" v. good. Was glad that Tiffany was around this day, too -- watched some videos Tiff had on her computer of her trapeze sessions. Decided that would never go trapezing. Watched Lost for the 3rd time with Suz, and for lack of anything else to do on a rainy day, watched Alias for the 2nd time. Am not complaining; are worse ways to spend time when hanging out. Helped (marginally) make a chocolate cake that smelled very good after it was done. Also met the last roommate of Susan's and Tiffany's that I had left to meet; seemed nice enough. Much neater than Suz. Heh.
Wednesday Went shopping with Mom all day (well, from lunchtime until dinnertime, anyway). Am tired. Is why am not typing in proper sentences. Bought lots of clothes (or what seemed like a lot at the time) and a pair of shoes. Mom says have finally proven myself worthy, since have never been good shopper. Never buy anything. If do buy anything, is usually DVDs, CDs, or books. Not clothes, and definitely not shoes. However, can tell am not an imposter because still managed to buy a boxset of books along with the clothes. :)
(I've forgotten whose journal I got this from...sorry.)

Damn it all -- I just tried to prevent myself from using my computer by defragmenting its hard drive, the only problem with that being that, once used to take hours on my older, stupider computer now took only about 10 minutes, tops. Stupid technology. Gonna have to find a better method at some point, 'cause there's a lot of studying that needs to get done today.
I signed up at Technorati yesterday, which is a site that lets you track references to your site (or to your keywords, or whatever) on the Internet as well as allows you to see which sites are linking to yours. Funnily enough, I apparently have two people (1, 2) linking here who I've never heard of or talked to before, and it was a little odd to see that my blog is included on their blog templates as a permanent link. So, so strange. Oh well. I guess I'll take that as a compliment...?
It's Chloe's 20th birthday today. Happy birthday, Chloe! :)
This Wednesday is the first day of Lent, and like last year, I'm gonna be giving up chocolate in all its forms for 40 days. I do it more for a let's-see-if-I-can reason more for any religious reason (I mean, what better excuse to try something slightly different for a while and feel more egotistical and haughty accomplished at the end of it?), and the sad part is that I have this huge box of chocolates sitting right in front of me right now. That won't all be finished by Wednesday. That I'm probably gonna have to forfeit to the wolves family. Sigh. Ah well, a deal's a deal. :)
